It wasn’t so long ago that vegan dining outside of Manchester city centre would take both planning a fair amount of luck. However, with the continued success of such movements as Meat Free Monday and Veganuary, it’s now possible to get great vegan food in the most unlikely of places. When I heard that a local pub had recently launched a new Vegan menu for 2018 I knew we had to go investigate. Here’s what we found..
Situated just a few miles out of Manchester off the East Lancs, The Woodside aims to blend fantastic village pub charms with a restaurant to boot.
We arrived at the Woodside on a packed Friday Evening. Whilst we waited for our table to become free we grabbed a drink in the bar. Unlike a lot of pub/restaurant hybrids where the bar area feels like an afterthought, the Woodside has a first-rate bar area with an open fireplace and welcoming atmosphere. We got chatting to a few of the locals…
We’ve been to the Woodside a few times over the years just for drinks and can recommend it any day of the week. As it was a Friday, bottles of prosecco were just £15. A bargain!
Food Menu at the Woodside Worsley
As well as it’s Rural charms and neighbourly atmosphere, the Woodside offers a seasonal menu that is regularly updated.
New for 2018 is the Vegan Menu, offering a full three-course menu with sides. Considering most country pubs struggle to offer a couple of veggie options, let alone vegan, I was most impressed.
It can never be overstated too how great it is to be able to order everything on the menu – An experience that will never get old for me.
Starters at Worsley
First to arrive at the table was the Chickpea and Lentil Falafel, a vegan pot served with spiced red pepper sauce and toasted ciabatta. A tasty starter, the spiced pepper sauce, in particular, worked well with the falafel.
Of the options available on the vegan menu this would easily be my go-to pick.
Mains at the Woodside Worsley
I choose the coconut vegetable curry, spiced roasted squash and sweet potato accompanied with sticky jasmine rice and coriander.
Lizzie opted for the Aubergine, Chickpea and Spinach burger, which also included a zesty kale, cauliflower and couscous salad side.
The burger also came with a generous portion of chunky chips 🙂 .
For sides, I’d go for the tenderstem broccoli, served with tangy chipotle dressing and toasted pumpkin seeds.
Throughout the evening, the service was excellent, with front of House Andy helping us to find a table and waiter Dan ensuring that everything was exactly as we wanted. Considering, how busy the place was we were most impressed with the level of service.
Overall, the Woodside Pub and Restaurant Worsley impressed us with its village charm and new vegan menu. In fact, we will be visiting again soon to try out the rest of the menu.
If you’re looking for a village pub that caters for Vegans as well as does Non-Vegans the Woodside Worsley is a fantastic option. We will be back soon!
