Gusto has a new menu for 2018! We visited the team in Didsbury to see what it was all about
Looking for a great Italian in South Manchester? Gusto hope to have the perfect spot for you!
Gusto Didsbury is situated in the heart of Didsbury village, a few doors down from the Expo Lounge. Aiming to ‘make the everyday exquisite’, Gusto takes its inspiration from the traditional European cafe culture. The team at Gusto invited us down to try out the menu and for our honest feedback.
Even though our reservation was for Sunday night the place was packed and lively. We were quickly taken to our booth by the attentive front-of-house where we were offered our first look at the new menu. Recently updated for 2018, the new menu at Gusto offers classic Italian favourites mixed in with contemporary dishes and a few surprises along the way.
Food at Gusto Didsbury
Before we made our choices we grabbed some Sun-Dried Tomatoes and Chilli Salt Edamame Beans. They did not last very long! Make sure you do the same as they were delicious!
For starters, we decided to share probably the most un-Italian item on the menu – the Houmous starter served with pesto, stone baked flatbread and crudités. At £5.95, it may not have been the most thrilling of starters, but it was certainly good-tasting and a bargain at just £5.95.
On to our mains where we opted for rather more traditional Italian options. I choose to go for the Caprino pizza, which came loaded with Goat’s cheese, roasted red peppers, pine kernels, caramelised onions, mozzarella and rocket. Freshly prepared in-house using homemade dough, the pizzas at Gusto are great tasting with a thin, crisp base just how it should be.
My partner when with the Spaghetti Pesto, served up with green beans, sun-dried tomatoes and rocket leaves. She was more than impressed with its strong flavours and homemade pesto taste. A simple yet tasty dish well worth choosing.
If there’s one aspect of the new menu that I really did not like, however, it was the lack of proper labelling on the menu – in 2018 I should not have to point this out. If you want to quickly see what is suitable for Vegetarians, Vegan, coeliacs and other allergies you are completely out of luck. After being rather spoilt recently with the likes of Wagamama, The Botanist and even Vintage Inn Country pubs showing you how it’s done it’s more than a little disappointing to be handed a menu that is completely unlabelled. Please get this sorted Gusto!
Luckily, the staff were on hand (who were excellent throughout I have to add) to help us with our picks. I did note that if you have any special requests, additions or submissions the team at Gusto are more than happy to help.
