Pen and Pencil, situated on the site of the old Drip Coffee, has been a feature of the NQ Brunch scene since opening in 2015. Whilst many more venues have been and gone since then, The Pen and Pencil still attracts large crowds for it’s take on Manhatten style brunching. It must be doing something right. I checked it out a few weeks ago to see what it was about.
The Pen and Pencil takes its t name from the famous steakhouse of the same name on New York’s East 45th Street. If you’ve watched Mad Men you should recognise it straight away as the place was popular with the New York Ad Men of the 60s.
New Brunch Menu at Pen and Pencil
The first dish we tried was the Seasonal Veg Stew, ideal for the cold winter months. This winter warmer, died bright red from the beetroot, is cooked with onions, tomatoes, butternut squash and chickpeas. Tasty as it was, it could have done with a larger portion. I’d recommend you order a side too if you’re hungry.
If you are looking for a vegan dish on the menu – this is the one to go for!
Lizzie went with the house special Avocado and feta served up with poached eggs and pistachio nuts and topped on thick slice of sourdough toast. For me, this is the dish to order.
