Fully refurbed, Las Iguanas Deansgate is going big in 2019. We checked it to out to see it was worth a visit!
For 2019, Las Iguanas Deansgate has just relaunched with a vibrant new look celebrates it’s the Latin American heritage. To celebrate, we attended the relaunch party to check out the new menu, see the new funky look for ourselves and soak up the carnival atmosphere.
For those who have been before, the main changes are a much larger bar and a much bigger focus on the Brazilian and Argentian roots of the restaurant, really setting it apart from some of the other chains in the area. It really works.
Also happening on the night was a great cocktail masterclass, allowing us to learn how to make the classic Caipirinha cocktails using Las Iguanas’ very own cachaça rum.
What were your favourite dishes?
First up were our starters. Of the dishes we ordered my big recommendation here would be Crispy Cauliflower Bites. Fried and cooked with a touch of spice, there are up there with some of the best ‘cauliflower wings’ I’ve ever had. If I’d had my own way we would have ordered seconds :-). Be sure to try to them next time you visit.
For mains, Lizzie ordered the smoked chipotle pulled jackfruit (everyone’s favourite ingredient in 2019 it seems) & beetroot burrito. Brimming with flavour, it’s served up with refried beans, crunchy slaw and rice. For my money, this is the pick of the veggie mains.
I went with the Las Iguanas classic: the portobello mushroom fajita stack. Cooked with onions, peppers and their ‘special mix of spices’ its a good option – just remember it can get messy! Each fajita stack comes with a range of extras to make it your own, including guacamole, grated cheese, sour cream, jalapeños and roasted tomato salsa.
If you’re following a vegan diet, it’s easy enough to make it suitable too – just remember to ask when you’re ordering.
Any dishes you wouldn’t order again?
Whilst most dishes I would try again, the Halloumi Skewers didn’t work for me. Pan fried and drizzled with a sweet chilli sauce, you’d think it would be hard to go wrong. But as they weren’t fully on the skewer they looked a bit ….. flaccid when you picked them up. Hopefully, they will sort it this out as it’s easy enough to fix.
Any Tips?
- As Las Iguanas love to say, it’s happy hour all the time! They offer 2 for 1 cocktails across the whole range – a fantastic deal. Just be careful that you do have to order two of the same cocktail. If you order two different cocktails they will serve you four cocktails, which happened to us a few years ago. What a shame….
- Las Iguanas is one of the best restaurants for those following a ‘restricted’ diet (I hate the term). If you’re following a vegan/vegetarian/gluten-free diet or have any other requirements they are able to cater easily and even have separate menus. A big bonus in my book.
What is Las Iguanas great for?
For those looking to bring the party atmosphere to the dining experience, Las Iguanas is a great option. Whilst it is a chain, don’t hold that against it!. They offer a wide variety of crowd pleasures along with a full cocktail menu that would put some cocktail bars to shame.
The Las Iguanas Spring 2019 menu launches nationally on April 2nd.

We’d like to thank all the staff at Las Iguanas for making it such a memorable night!
