There’s never been a better time to eat Vegetarian or Vegan in Manchester. With new places opening faster than I can visit them and established restaurants launching new menus and additions all the time, there’s something for everyone.
To celebrate #NationalVegetarianWeek, we’ve put together a list of a few places to check out this week….
Try the Vegan Introduction Menu at The Refuge
Unsure where to start with plant-based food? The vegan tasting menu is a great way to dip your toe in the water.
For £20 the team at Refuge will serve you six tasting plates along with vegan wine. Particular highlights include the curried sweet potato curry ( a favourite of mine) and the Beetroot Pakora. The ideal mid-week treat.
What I really like about this tasting menu is that the portion sizes are very generous – big enough for two to share properly.

Try the Tiffin Boxes at Mowgli Street Food
Fancy a game of food roulette? If you enjoy Indian food the Tiffin Boxes at Mowgli Street Food are fantastic. The boxes contain 4 different dishes from the menu for you to try. The dishes change weekly, making it worth going back to see what they’ve chosen this week. Priced at just £14, it’s great value and comes highly recommended.

Try the latest vegan and vegetarian offerings at Wagamama
Yes, it is a chain, but Wagamama Vegan and Vegetarian options are some of the best in town. My favourite currently on the menu is the Kare Burosu Ramen. According to the head chef, this is the most popular choice from the vegan menu and for good reason too! It combines shichimi coated tofu and vegetables topped with stir-fried bean sprouts onions, book Choi peppers, mushrooms and chilli – super tasty!

Try the small plates menu at Asha’s Manchester
Named after the famous singer (who Cornership sung about in ‘A Brimful of Asha), this multi-award winning restaurant has become a strong favourite. It’s small plates menu offers a great variety of vegetarian options to please even the pickiest foodie.
If you go be sure to order the Aloo Chaat and Kati Rolls. They also have a surprisingly good cocktail menu that you should check out too!
