Grand Pacific Review – Sunday Roast Service

July 18, 2019 Daniel Kelly Leave a Comment

Grand Pacific

Grand Pacific has launched a vegetarian Sunday Roast service! Here’s what we found…..

If there’s one thing we like up North it’s a proper Sunday Roast. Few things can beat it after a long week. So when I found out Grand Pacific had – finally – included a Veggie option to the Sunday menu I knew we had to check it out. We were not disappointed!

Located just off King Street and across the road from Rosso, there’s simply nowhere in Manchester quite like it. The main room, appropriately titled the Grand Hall, includes the main bar area and restaurant. Grand Pacific really knocks it out the park when it comes to presentation.

It’s simply a beautiful place to spend a few hours on a lazy Sunday afternoon. Best to grab a drink first before sitting down for lunch!

Inside Grand Pacific

What’s included in the Sunday Service?

So what does the Sunday Roast service involve? Aiming to bring a slice of ‘unparalleled home comfort’, their words not mine, The Sunday roast is served in three courses, with 1 course coming in at £15.95, 2 courses at £21.95 and all three at a reasonable £24.95. If you’ve got the appetite it’s best going for all three!

Throughout the day music is provided by a string quartet – it was Leo’s Strings when we went. They were fantastic and really made the experience.

It’s the small touches like this that really make it. From the branded plates that always served the right way up, to the on-point service, it’s hard not to be impressed.

String Quartet

Did it deliver?

For starters, the veggie option is poached asparagus with crispy hens egg and hollandaise sauce. The frankly huge asparagus (you can tell it’s the season for them), was cooked properly unlike most places, with enough bite left. But it was the egg that was the highlight. No question I’d order it again! Don’t skip the starter this is more than appetizing!

Asparagus and egg

Onto the main, which is Spiced Cauliflower, served up with all the trimmings you could ever want including seasonal greens, roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower cheese (yes you’re getting double cauliflower), buttered mash, horseradish, roasting gravy and Yorkshire puddings.

Now, cauliflower is never a dish that jumps off the menu, but this was simply melt-in-the-mouth stuff. Far better than using a bland meat-substitute. Well-seasoned and packing a flavourful punch.

For dessert, we decided to share a Chocolate Fondant. Cooked to order – it takes about 12 minutes – it was simply perfect. Served with salted caramel, honeycomb, peanuts, and mouth-watering Vanilla Ice Cream, it was more than worth the wait. And yes, the inside was indeed molten :-). We should have got one each to stop us fighting over it!

Whatever you do, don’t skip the dessert!

Coming in at £70 with drinks, Grand Pacific is certainly not the cheapest place in town to go, but considering the quality of the food, the excellent service and opulent surroundings I believe its more than reasonable.

Anything else to know?

As well as the food being on-point, a big thank you to all the staff for making it such a wonderful afternoon. They even brought out more trimmings to go with our roast. We did not need it!

If I had one criticism of Grand Pacific, it’s the lack of options for vegetarians and especially vegans. Away from the Sunday menu, choices are too limited. This needs to be worked on.

Overall, Grand Pacific Sunday Service is a winner. Make sure to check it out soon!
