Ready to Step up the Oche? Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned player, Flight Club has got you covered
It wasn’t too long ago that a night out in Manchester involved your favourite bars, lots of drinking and not much else. But all that has changed. Whether you want to try your hand at axe-throwing, escape rooms, table tennis or target practice, there really is something for everyone in Manchester. The ‘Experience Economy’ is in full swing.
Launching last year, Flight Club has already been a big hit. Aiming to bring ‘Social Darts’ to Manchester, we went down recently to see if Flight Club hits the spot.
Situated just off King Street, behind the imposing Gotham hotel, you could be forgiven for thinking it’s rather small as you walk past. But step inside and it’s a different matter. With 14 oches (dart playing areas) and a huge bar area, this place is deceptively big.
Style-wise, Flight Club is like walking through a fairground after hours. It’s loud, it’s raucous and a little bewildering. It certainly stands out from the crowded Manchester bar scene.
Even if you have no interest in darts it’s well worth popping in for a cocktail or two.
You don’t have to be a fan of darts to have a good , you should give Flight Club a go. As well as a simple 180 game (the closest to traditional darts that it offers), the team at Flight Club has created a range of social and multiplayer games designed to keep everyone entertained no matter what the skill level.
I particularly liked Killer, where the aim of the game is to protect your number whilst aiming at your opponents.
The team has really thought of everything too – from tablet service as you play to using an innovative tracking system that means you don’t even have to worry about keeping score.
Whether you’re in a big group or just the two of you, I suggest you try each game out to find your own favourite.
Food-wise, Flight Club keeps it simple with a variety of sharing plates, pizza paddles and tacos all served to you whilst you play. I’d recommend the vegan pizza.
Whether you’re hosting an after-work social or just looking for a new bar to try, Flight Club should be on your to-do list. In fact, I enjoyed it so much the first time I’ve already been back.
