After months of Twitter speculation and rumour floating about, the news was confirmed a few days ago. Greggs are launching a Vegan Steak Bake – and it’s in stores as of today!
After the success of the Vegan Sausage Roll last year, it’s no surprise that Greggs have launched a Vegan version of one of their best sellers. Rumour has it that they want to launch a vegan version of all their best sellers.
But is it any good? I grabbed one earlier today to see if it’s worth the hype…
The Vegan Steak Bake is apparently very similar to meat version ( I wouldn’t be able to tell you as I’ve never had one). It has the same 96 layers of pastry as the meat version, with a Quorn mince diced onion and gravy filling.
As for the taste, I thought it a slice of tasty filling stodge (in a good way). I would have liked a bit more seasoning in the filling, but then again I always overdo it on the salt :-).
If you’re looking for something to cure a hangover it would be ideal
If I had to choose between the Steak Bake and the Sausage Roll, the Vegan Sausage Roll just about has it. But it’s close!
Priced at £1.55, it’s bound to sell by the bucketload.
Sadly, the Vegan Steak Bake won’t be available everywhere until 16th Jan. If you do try one let me know what you think via Twitter!
